The Long Island Advocacy Center is a partner in the "NY Region 1 Collaborative"; A Parent Training and Information Center (PTIC) funded by the US Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. Decades of research supports the powerful influence parent and family involvement has on children's achievement in school. For families of children with disabilities, navigating the special education process and advocating for their child's social, emotional and educational needs can be overwhelming when you do it alone.
LIAC offers families of children with disabilities direct support through information and referral so families can gain confidence in understanding their rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), how to collaborate and communicate effectively with their educational team as well as information for community resources.
For Region 1 families outside of Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk Counties (NYC and the 5 boroughs) contact our NY Region 1 Collaborative Partners
For Region 2 families (the rest of New York State) contactStarbridge.
